About Raechel Nelson
I have been working in education for 7 years. After working in the public school setting, I joined the Peace Corps and spent time as a Youth in Development volunteer in Fiji. During my time there, I led professional development for teaching student-centered lessons, and helped to establish a homework club in the village, which grew from 5 students to over 40. After being evacuated due to COVID-19, I returned to the public school classroom, where I learned a great deal about how to be more effective in virtual and hybrid settings.Currently, I am working with the DoDEA to serve military-connected students. On a daily basis, I work to guide students to the kind of opportunities they deserve by providing a safe and supportive classroom environment, by aiming to meet their social/emotional and academic needs, and by consistently seeking opportunities to increase my capacity as a teacher. I believe that all students are learners, and that it is my job to facilitate the kind of learning best suited for them.I hope to continue to find ways to educate, engage, and empower my students to succeed in our growing and changing world.
