ABOUT RACHEL MILLS
In 2016 I began to develop ideas and content around nature and sustainability for elearning and augmented reality apps/books. My start-up company Buttercup Learning was accepted into the Natwest Back her business competition (Bring it 2020), along with business mentoring from SETsquared. On March 2nd 2020 I launched a crowdfunder to raise funds to finalise designs, content, and develop the app to bring my first augmented book to market. I\'m on a mission to ensure the survival of insects and humanity one family at a time through our AR Insect Alphabet and Phonics book. I hope to support conservation charities with the eventual sale of the book.In 2020 we launched our range of Nature prints with augmented reality and in 2021 we continued to develop the company\'s sustainably designed website. During this time we were awarded a Creative Councils One to Watch and TechRound top listing as an EdTech and Sustainable business. We began to raise money for nature and education charities through work for good and the sale of our nature prints including RSPB, Marine Conservation, Windle International and Bumblebee Conservation. We are exploring micro-giving with BIGI. In 2022 we launched a podcast Curious About Nature, exploring ways to connect with nature and rewild childhood. Later this year we kickstarted our nature activity subscription box exploring the British wildlife on our doorstep. Boxes are delivered every other month (6 boxes throughout the year) and families can join our private online community. This September we begin building our online nature focussed curriculum platform and community for families that home educate and primary school teachers and private tutors who enjoy outdoor learning. As a Senior Lecturer in Animation, I am a lead on professional practice, enterprise and industry-focussed curriculum design and delivery, extracurricular initiatives, and Live briefs for Animation at UWE Bristol. More than 14 years of expertise in the Creative industries: animation, design, and e-learning (web, and television) and production management. Creative skills in Adobe Animate, Illustration, and Photography and with many years of animation industry project management experience. My research interest is in the application of 3D Printing and Animation. My other interests lie in new platforms for Animation and interactive apps and books. I enjoy teaching students utilising technology-enhanced learning. Teaching Specialties: Project Management, Adobe Animate, Design for Animation, Enterprise curriculum.
