ABOUT RACHEL VANHORN

From Zookeeper to Science Teacher -> The adventure continues. With a diverse background spanning zoology, embryology, administrative support, and home management, I bring a proven capacity to adapt and acquire new skills. After recently completing bootcamps in both front-end and back-end software development, I found my next adventure: public education! As a General Science teacher at a middle school, I\'m blending my scientific expertise with my passion for teaching and empowering young minds. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Michigan State University and spent nearly two decades using that knowledge to provide top-notch animal husbandry and educate visitors of all ages about the environment. This experience built my communication and problem-solving skills, which I now apply in the classroom. I currently hold an alternate teaching license and am working toward converting to a traditional teaching license, with an anticipated conversion by Fall 2026. In addition to teaching, I continue to hone my skills in software development, always excited to see where my scientific background intersects with technology. I\'m eager to bring that energy and curiosity to new opportunities that challenge both my teaching and tech skills.
