ABOUT RACHEL ROLAND
Rachel is an international development Capacity Strengthening professional with 30 years experience. She is skilled in capacity development as training manager, coach, mentor, trainer, trainer of trainers and facilitator, lesson learning and dialogue lead, having worked in cascade-methods of capacity development in East and West Africa and Asia. She has led a wide range of capacity strengthening, curriculum development, technical assistance, lesson learning projects and results based and programme cycle management assignments for many development partners including DFID, EC, CDKN, UNOPS/GEF, ESF, and the UK Foreign Office. As part of this work she often researches stakeholder interests, organisational and individual capacity needs and develops then delivers capacity development plans. Rachel is currently seconded 80% of her time to the Royal National Lifeboats Institution (RNLI), setting a drowning prevention programme on Lake Victoria, Tanzania, with fishing communities and also working on several FCDO projects - includingSomaliland Development Fund 2, and as a trainer for FCDO staff, and working with the African Union. She coordinated 7 feasibility studies to support a direct access project application to the GCF which was successfully funded in 2018. Before that she led a project on learning from national policy development in 4 countries in Africa (Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique) and in July 2015 ran an international workshop in Rwanda on climate-related Resource Mobilisation which included with 50 delegates from 13 countries. Before that she helped a major African NGO develop their stakeholder influencing priorities. Her long term work in Tanzania and Nigeria involved training community workers in facilitation and training skills and their technical fields. At CIDT she ran a successful Overseas Technical Trainers Award (OTTA) for several years.
