Open Climate Fix is an open source non-profit product lab focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions by building the Nowcasting PV generation forecast. I’ve worked on two large Nowcasting-related UI features and two of our APIs and have built an internal dashboard for our PV forecast statistics. Below I highlight my code-related work, but it’s important to note that this role has helped me learn about open source code, philanthropic funding, the energy sector, and the critical role AI and tech innovation play in making possible the integration of renewables into our power grids. The following is a list of my full stack activity at OCF: UI/UX Design and Feature Development: For two large features on the Nowcasting app, I contributed in the following ways: discussed Figma designs with designer and frontend team; created GitHub issues; collaborated on feature implementation; provided code review. API Development: Using FastAPI and Pydantic models, helped build the first iterations of an API for a new PV forecast. Database Design: Participated in design discussions for our PostgreSQL database that stores the individual PV site Nowcasting forecast. OCF Internal UI Streamlit App: UI Implementation & Data Science: Coded the first few iterations of a Streamlit dashboard app that displays Nowcasting forecast statistics with plotly data visualization. CI/CD: Working with our data engineer, learned how to containerize the app using Docker and deploy new versions to an AWS Elastic Beanstalk App using Terraform Cloud. Writing & Documentation: Newsletter and blog collaboration; Notion and Redocs API documentation maintenance.
