I am so happy to serve in my dream come true job with the Salvation Army in Halifax. I just graduated with a Master of Divinity in Missions and Evangelism. Open Arms is a community partner that engages with children, youth, and their families in redemptive relationships; guided by a desire to bring hope to the community that is rooted in the love and good news of Jesus Christ by fulfilling the mission and vision of The Salvation Army by supporting the families of the North End community, and by building positive community partnerships. My core competencies include communication, leadership, independent decision-making, networking, interpersonal skills, organizational skills and counselling. The Salvation Army is a Christian organization that exists to share the hope of Jesus Christ by serving the vulnerable in 134 countries. The Salvation Army shares the love of Jesus Christ by meeting human needs and being a transformative agent of impact and change to communities of the world. In my Service responsibilities, I support a learning environment in accordance to the Halifax Centre of Hope’s Mission, Vision and Values. All of this aligns with the COH’s policies, procedures and philosophy of practice. Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics and files, and ensure confidentiality is protected. Commit to the COH projects and activities and participate in internal committees. Assist in program and service delivery to ensure quality, effective and client-centered programs are delivered. Provide a supportive environment and foster a therapeutic milieu that promotes empowerment. Demonstrate skill applicable to a client- directed approach and a social justice perspective. Knowledge of mental health issues, substance abuse and cross intervention. Good Communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to build appropriate and healthy rapport with at-risk persons. Knowledge of community resources available to support Open Arms Program. Ability to work within the mandate of The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement. I have 8+ years of experience working with at-risk children.
