About Rachel Gies
I am a Sustainability professional working as Planner II at HNTB. I graduated from UMass Amherst with an MS in Sustainability, a BS in Environmental Science, and a minor in Natural Resources Conservation. I am passionate about developing holistic, community-based solutions such as equitable food initiatives and resilience in diverse communities that will aid in establishing sustainable food systems. I am determined to radically accelerate the transition to a more sustainable society by setting an accessible foundation for future generations, following the lead of Black, Indigenous, and people of color who for centuries have contributed least to these issues, but have also been the most marginalized by them. I aim to research and design new practices that can bridge the gap between sustainable meat consumption and food insecurity through needs-centric economies and decolonial human-land relationships to make institutional changes for social equity.
