As a Professional Trustee at BESTrustees my role involves exercising independent and effective governance oversight of pension arrangements, either as a member of a pension fund trustee board, a company\'s pensions governance committee or a pension provider\'s Independent Governance Committee. Our work is always in the interests of the beneficiaries. In a defined benefit pension scheme context it is about ensuring benefit security through appropriate investment and funding strategies. In a defined contribution context it includes: setting an appropriate investment strategy within which members can make informed decisions and monitoring performance; ensuring efficient administration process; and making sure communication is effective enough to promote understanding and support member decision-making. In both contexts, risk management is a key element of a trustee / committee member\'s work.
