About Rache Simmons
I am passionate about caring for women, both in my role as a breast cancer surgeon/researcher and as an executive physician leader interested in promoting women’s equity. For three decades, I have practiced breast cancer surgery at Weill Cornell Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and served as Chief of Breast Surgery from 20••••18. Due to the excellent clinical care offered by our team of breast care providers, I am regularly included in the NY Magazine’s Best Doctors list. My active role in clinical research has resulted in over 100 peer-reviewed publications and continues to involve relationships as a clinical/scientific advisor in the oncology and surgical space to guide vision, strategy, and product development. I enjoy public speaking and educating women about breast cancer treatments and innovation through the media including Good Morning America, ABC/CBS/NBC/Fox News, Oxygen TV, Oprah Winfrey Show, Vogue, Ladies Home Journal, Glamour, Good Housekeeping, Redbook, Self, Bazaar, NY Magazine, US World News and World Report, and The Wall Street Journal. Board work has been a significant part of my career through numerous national academic boards and societies, as well as several not-for-profit boards in the community. It was a pleasure leading the American Society of Breast Surgeons as a founding member and a Past-President to its current membership of over national and international members. As Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Inaugural Director of the Office of Women at WCM, and Inaugural Co-Director of Women Physicians of NYP, I have pioneered women’s equity in academic medicine, locally and nationally. Specifically, my work has been instrumental in establishing institutional onsite childcare, parental leave policies, parental tenure pause, and pay equity assessments at WCM/NYPH. In March 2020, I was recognized by Crain’s Business for accomplishments promoting women’s equity in the workplace and received the 2020 Women in Medicine Summit #SheforShe Honorary Award for my efforts as an ally to other women in medicine.
