ABOUT RACHAEL MARTIN

Rachael project manages Step Up to Net Zero, a Glasgow City Council funded project to support 80+ Glasgow businesses in their net zero journey by funding 6 month work placements who help the business take action towards net zero and circular goals. I am responsible for overall project management including stakeholder, partner & business community management; project design & development and project evaluation. Also responsible for line managing a team of Project Coordinators to support the delivery of the project. I previously managed My Climate Path, a COP26 education legacy project for young people across the Glasgow City Region, led by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Glasgow, funded by Scottish Government and delivered with DYW West and DYW Lanarkshire & East Dunbartonshire. My Climate Path links business with young people to inspire them on the roles and skills required for the jobs of the future that will drive sustainable economic growth in a green and circular economy. The successful project is now being rolled out nationwide. Prior to Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Rachael gained 7 years environmental consultancy experience focusing on environmental impact assessment (EIA) coordination and management. As a Senior Environmental Consultant, Rachael worked across a wide range of sectors throughout the UK and Ireland including urban development, masterplanning, renewable power, electricity transmission, major infrastructure, as well as emerging industries including geoenergy and Scottish spaceports. She has project managed and coordinated a range of multidisciplinary EIA projects, from feasibility, site selection & design stages to consultation, ES/EIA Report preparation and post-consent support including discharge of conditions, environmental mitigation monitoring and consent variation applications. Rachael has experience of engaging with stakeholders and statutory bodies as well as local communities through public consultation events, leading design workshops and multi-agency site visits. Rachael has a strong working knowledge of GIS and regularly fulfilled GIS project lead, coordinating the dissemination of spatial data. In a voluntary capacity, Rachael is a Board Trustee at 2050 Climate Group, responsible for the charity\'s strategy and governance. Previously Co-Chair of YLDP Operations Team, leading the design and delivery of charity’s flagship Young Leaders Development Programme (YLDP). The YLDP educates, engages and empowers young people in Scotland to take climate action and lead a just transition through the climate emergency.
