Five years of doing this at scale - a Fortune 50 insurance company where I sustain the infrastructure from commit to runtime across dozens of Kubernetes clusters, and a live ticketing platform where one bad deploy meant thousands of missed concert tickets.Platform engineering pulled me in because of the leverage - one good decision at the infrastructure layer makes every engineer on top of it faster. These days I use AI tools as part of how I work - Copilot, Cursor, Claude, MCP - not as a shortcut but as a way to spend more time on the architecture decisions that actually matter. Outside work, I\'m a painter and someone who reads neuroscience papers on decision-making for fun. The way the brain handles uncertainty under pressure isn\'t that different from how distributed systems fail and recover.    At State Farm - the largest property and casualty insurer in the U.S - I\'m responsible for the platform that determines whether software ships safely across 12+ EKS clusters and 40+ production workloads.When I joined, deployments were manual, observability was fragmented across Splunk and Datadog, and container security had gaps that pen testing exposed. I rebuilt all of it. The observability stack now runs on Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Thanos at a fraction of what we were paying. The security layer runs Trivy at the commit stage, Kyverno/OPA Gatekeeper at admission, and Falco at runtime - with Sysbox runtimes replacing Docker-in-Docker entirely. Vulnerabilities down 40%. Container escape risk gone.The delivery side got the same treatment. A GitOps platform on ArgoCD removed ops as a bottleneck - most deployments now happen without anyone touching them manually. A legacy Jenkins pipeline that shipped every few weeks became a same-day EKS workflow with zero P1 incidents after launch. EC2 build times cut in half with custom Packer AMIs.The through-line across all of it: infrastructure that gets out of the way and lets engineering teams move.
