About Riane Ashley Cardenas
Riane Ashley Cardenas is a dedicated advocate with years of experience in volunteer leadership, strategic planning, and policy implementation within nonprofit and government organizations. Her work has focused on budget management, organizational restructuring, and the development of programs that serve marginalized communities.In 2007, Riane played a key role in the Catholic Diocese’s reorganization, serving on the board responsible for finalizing its strategic plan. Recognized for her expertise, she was invited in 2008 to join the Implementation Board, which provided oversight for departmental teams ensuring adherence to budget plans while launching new initiatives and phasing out ineffective programs. During this time, she led the establishment of a Youth and Young Adult department, strengthening engagement within the Church. Additionally, she contributed to the formation of the Outreach department, addressing homelessness and other pressing social and civic issues. Her work extended across key areas such as real estate, finance, budgeting, and infrastructure.Riane’s leadership within the Catholic Church led to her appointment to the Keiki Caucus and the Affordable Housing and Houseless Caucus for the State of Hawaii (2009–2013). She continues to stay informed about legislative developments affecting children and families. From 2016 to 2018, she served as Secretary for the Women’s Board of Missions for the Pacific Islands and remains an active member today.Understanding the intersection of social and civic issues with economics, Riane pursued an academic path to strengthen her expertise. She earned her undergraduate degree in Humanities specializing in Social and Civic Issues in 2014 and is currently completing her Master of Business Administration (MBA). She plans to apply to law school in 2024 to further her goal of becoming an International Corporate Lawyer, recognizing that financial resources and legal expertise are critical tools for driving systemic change.Beyond her advocacy and academic pursuits, Riane is a published author and speaker, having participated in panels and engagements focusing on indigenous rights and social justice. She remains deeply committed to championing families, marginalized communities, women, children, and indigenous peoples.
