ABOUT QUINN JACOBS
Dr. Quinn Jacobs (he/him) is a Toronto-based composer, lecturer, and artistic director.He COMPOSES for concert, dance, theatre, and interdisciplinary contexts. Over 45 of his compositions have been performed across North America and Europe, and he has recently worked with Angela Blumberg Dance (Toronto), Bakarlari (Montreal), the Chamber Jazz Consort (Brussels), Edson Ensemble (Amsterdam), Esprit Orchestra (Toronto), the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, NOW Ensemble (NYC), The Secret Shakespeare Series (Toronto), and jazz musicians Lars Danielsson (Sweden) and Aaron Parks (USA). His festival appearances include Gaudeamus (Netherlands), Talis (Switzerland), Tammefestival (Estonia), Nordic Saxophone Festival (Finland), TUTTI (USA), and Fresh Inc (USA).He is the founding ARTISTIC DIRECTOR of Din of Shadows, an experimental performing arts company that has commissioned and produced 24 interdisciplinary world premieres since its inception in 2017, collaborating with 92 artists and technical personnel across seven multimedia events.Quinn has been an EDUCATOR since 2010, lecturing in music in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto, working as a teacher’s assistant in ear training and theory at UofT\'s Faculty of Music, tutoring music theory at Berklee College of Music, and teaching guitar, piano, and ensemble lessons at small music academies. He has spent the past nine years exploring the intersection of games and music education, developing three educational music theory card games, researching applications of game-based learning in the music classroom, and working as a graduate assistant at The Play Lab at OISE.Quinn holds degrees from the University of Toronto (DMA), the Utrecht Conservatory (MMus), and Berklee College of Music (BMus), and is a member of SOCAN, the Canadian Music Centre, the Ontario Music Educators’ Association, and the International Society for Music Education.
