Jurkunas lab focuses on identifying the disease mechanisms of and therapeutic interventions for Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) which is the most common cause of corneal endothelial cell loss leading to loss of vision. Responsibilities: Perform independent and collaborative research involving concurrent studies on male and female animal models, patient tissues as well as mammalian cell culture models. Administrative duties, including maintenance of laboratory inventories, ordering laboratory supplies, biohazardous materials shipping, overseeing maintenance of laboratory equipment, maintaining a biobank of patient tissues and tissue details, and attending weekly laboratory and monthly Technical Staff meetings.
