ABOUT QUENTIN TANNOCK

I am a barrister, with much experience in commercial litigation and arbitration across all areas of commercial law. In addition to acting as sole counsel, I enjoy working as part of a team in larger disputes.I am described in the directories as “an excellent advocate” who is “adept at presenting difficult concepts and issues to arbitral tribunals in a way that is easy to digest” as well as being “a fiercely sharp cross examiner” who “thinks on his feet”. The directories also describe my advice as “technical and decisive”. I have particular experience in respect of private equity and investment disputes, construction and energy sector disputes and civil fraud claims, including in respect of deceit, unlawful interference, procurement of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, duress and intimidation. As well as my experience at the Bar, I can draw on my long career in business, as a business owner, manager, leader and advisor. I have run my own patent research company, worked in venture capital investments and I provided IP-related strategy and policy advice to multinational corporations and international organisations. I have also worked for the University of Cambridge, helping the university manage relationships with major corporations. In the course of my career in business, I gained international business experience in China, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa and Zimbabwe. I also managed software development teams and participated in collaborative R&D projects.Since being called to the Bar in the UK, I have appeared in the High Court, Court of Appeal (Civil Division) and Supreme Court. And I have gained particular experience concerning the laws of other jurisdictions, including the laws of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Bermuda, California (USA), Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), Guernsey, Hong Kong and the Republic of Cyprus. I have rights of audience in the Courts of the United Kingdom, as well as in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Courts and the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts.I have a strong academic bent, regularly publishing legal articles and contributing to chapters in legal textbooks. I was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, in the Faculty of Law, with a research focus on international commercial arbitration. In 20••••22, I lectured master’s of science students on IP and business at the University of Cambridge.
