Sara Qiu, CPA, Director and Global Head of U.S. GAAP Accounting Policy & Advisory, leads BlackRock’s Global U.S. GAAP Accounting Policy & Advisory Team. Sara has over 26 years of experience in the financial services industry. Sara’s deep subject matter expertise includes, but not limited to, accounting and reporting matters related to consolidation, business combination, share-based payments, earnings per share, financial instruments, revenue recognition (including carry accounting), leases, foreign currency matters, segment reporting and securitization. Sara is a strategic business partner in providing accounting advice and structuring solutions to senior leadership on corporate strategic transactions, commercial partnership arrangements, and new products and services. Sara sits on the AMRS Technical Review Group for new products. Sara is an active participant in asset management industry groups including SIFMA and AMIAPG. Prior to joining BlackRock, Sara was at Ambac Financial Group Inc. for approximately 10 years where she held two roles. She started as the Division Controller for Derivative and Investment Accounting and Reporting managing a team of six staff. She then became the Director of Accounting Policy (one of the two founders of the department) and held this role for seven years. Sara started her career with KPMG where she spent six years in the New York audit practice for financial services. Sara earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Summa Cum Laude, from the State University of Binghamton. She is a licensed CPA in New York and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York State Society of CPAs.
