WORK HISTORY
Senior Process Engineer @Journey Engineering Corporation
Calgary, AB, CA
Paul is a capable Senior process engineer with over a decade of solid engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) experience. Paul has been adept process engineer for a variety of industrial spaces:Helium Facilities:• Completed the engineering design deliverables and supported project management for a program of helium purification facilities in southwestern Saskatchewan ranging from 4-12 MMSCFD of feed gas. • These facilities consist of the following processes: gravity separation, water dewpoint management, membrane separation, compression, pressure swing adsorption, enhanced helium recovery.• Current work in this space includes: installation of a lab scale helium liquefier and supporting components, preliminary front-end engineering design on a regional scale helium liquefier, and waste heat recovery for power generation.New Technologies (Lithium and Hydrogen Research):• Completed the engineering design deliverables and supported project management for a research based hydrogen pilot plant system using pyrolysis.• Front end engineering for the commercialization of lithium from brine processing pilot plant.Conventional Oil and Gas:• Completed numerous types of facilities including but not limited to: satellites, batteries, compressor stations, gas plants, pump stations, blending facilities, water treatment and injection/disposal. • Involved in both greenfield design and de-bottlenecking exercises for the facilities. • Completed full field scale pipeline modeling networks for gathering systems to assist with the development planning. • Process support for a oil sands facility expansion including heat exchanger upgrades and fuel gas pipeline modelling.

ABOUT PAUL KLAVINS
Paul is a capable project and process engineer (APEGA, APEGS, and EGBC registered) with over a decade of engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) experience. Over the course of his career, Paul has gained experience in many oil and gas industry processes including: separation, gas sweetening, dew-point control and liquids recovery, fractionation, compression, pumping, carbon capture, and hydrogen generation. In additional to being technically skilled, he is also proficient with: financial studies, optimizations, and design recommendations to minimize greenhouse gas (GHS) emissions; life cycle analysis of facilities; project management for facility retrofits; effluent studies; and management of change (MOC) processes. His most current projects revolve around helium facilities, oil batteries, hydrogen generation, and oil refineries. With any project, he applies his strong knowledge with process simulations (HYSYS, PetroSim, ASPEN Plus, VMGSim, Koch-Glitsch Tower) coupled with strong recommendations in design reviews, 3D model reviews, and hazard and operability studies (HAZOPs) to ensure positive project outcomes. He also has programming experience with Python, Java, VBA, PowerBI, and SQL. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS • Completed the detailed engineering design for several helium purification facilities ranging from $5 million to $20 million. • Completed the detailed engineering design for a condensate stabilizer and liquid recovery system for a legacy 220 MMSCFD Gas Plant. • Completed the front-end engineering design for a Pyrolysis Pilot Plant for Hydrogen Generation. • Completed the front-end engineering design for an LNG Truck Loading and LNG Bunkering Facility. • Completed the detailed engineering design and operated a Carbon Capture and Synthetic Fuel Pilot Plant. • Acted as the lead process engineer for several midstream projects including managing and distributing the incoming calculation and simulation work requests and mentoring junior staff. • Supported the completion of process engineering deliverables for gas processing plants and midstream facilities. • Served as the stamping engineer for numerous upstream oil and gas industry projects with total installed costs of up to $10MM.
