About Peter Tanella
Peter Tanella is a business lawyer, strategist, and trusted advisor who helps clients navigate complex transactions and position their businesses for long-term success. He co-chairs Mandelbaum Barrett PC’s Corporate Practice Group, chairs the National Veterinary Law Group, and serves on the firm’s Board of Directors, where he works closely with leadership to drive the firm’s vision and strategic growth. With deep experience in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganizations, governance, and other commercial transactions, Peter represents clients at every stage of the business lifecycle. Known for building exceptionally close client relationships, he anticipates needs, aligns with internal teams, and delivers practical solutions that respect both deadlines and budgets. As Chair of the National Veterinary Law Group, Peter leads a multidisciplinary team that counsels veterinary professionals and organizations nationwide. His practice spans the full range of transactional and strategic issues facing veterinary practices today, including acquisitions and sales, associate buy-ins, start-ups, joint ventures, and partnership and employment agreements. Beyond his legal practice, Peter is deeply committed to public service and nonprofit leadership. He served five terms as Mayor of Cedar Grove, New Jersey, capping nearly two decades on the Township Council. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, the largest YMCA in New Jersey, and a former Board Member of NYSAVE, a nonprofit providing emergency funding for veterinary care for sick or injured companion animals.
