Act as a deputy to the Vice-Chancellor and to contribute to the overall strategic direction and policy development of the University.Bring leadership and vision to ensure the University’s learning and teaching strategies and outcomesare academically challenging, professionally relevant, and delivered using the best available methodologies and technologies.Provide strategic and inspirational leadership to the functions responsible for academic-led services.Initiate, inspire and coordinate strategic discussions on pedagogy and educational strategy throughout the University’s academic community and drive the successful implementation of their outcomes.Promote a culture of academic excellence and innovation to ensure that teaching and learning are designed and delivered to maximise student outcomes and enhance the experience of the University by all beneficiary groups, while delivering against income and other performance targets.Work to promote a beneficiary-focused culture that is agile, customer-centric, focused on delivering effective outcomes and results, where all staff have a clear understanding of these expectations.Significant committee and working party responsibilitiesand representation of the University externally which change over time. Some of these includes:Internal• Executive, Senate, Council, Appointment panels, Appeals and Grievances Hearings.• A number of ad hoc “task and finish“ groups, as directed by the VC.External Liaison• Representing the University’s interests at local, regional, national and international level, as directed by the VC.• Collaborations with other higher education institutions in the UK and internationally.• Business and industry partners Regional and Local Authorities.• Governmental partners.• Industrial and commercial bodies.
