ABOUT GARY CLARK
I am passionate about bridging the boundaries between academic research, teaching and practice across many industries, keeping sustainability at the core of architectural philosophy. With a career spanning over three decades, I have worked with some of the UKs most highly respected architectural practices and multiple award-winning projects across many sectors. Including Hopkins Architects, Bennetts Associates, WilkinsonEyre Architects, and most recently as head of Science and Technology at HOK Architects London Studio. I am now Managing Director, EMEA at HKS and lead a 75-strong team at the firm’s London office, that is currently working on projects in the UK, mainland Europe, Middle East and North Africa. As a champion of design and sustainable excellence within the profession, I am visiting professor of sustainable architecture at Queens University Belfast and Sheffield University UK, and also Deputy Chair of UK Construction Industry Council Climate Change Committee. I was formerly the Chair of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Sustainable Futures Group from 2018 to 2021, where I helped shape the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge and a suite of sustainability guidance including the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide to support the RIBA Plan of Work.I am regularly invited as a keynote speaker and panelist at architectural and construction industry events on topics including regenerative and sustainable design, and science and technology.
