About Umesh Kumar Singh

I am a passionate academician and researcher with over three decades of experience in computer science education, research and administration. Currently, I serve as a Professor of Computer Science and Dean, Faculty of Engineering Sciences at Vikram University, Ujjain. In addition to my academic role, I am actively contributing as the Director, University Incubation Centre (UIC), where I focus on fostering innovation, promoting startups and strengthening the University’s research ecosystem. My journey in academia began with a deep interest in technology and education. I earned my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science from Devi Ahilya University, Indore. I have had the privilege of holding various leadership positions over the years, including serving as the Director of Institute of Computer Science for more than 25 years, Director of School of Engineering & Technology at Vikram University and previously as the Principal of Mahakal Institute of Computer Science (MICS), Ujjain. Beyond academia, I bring practical industry experience, having worked as an Engineer (Education & Training) at CMC Ltd, New Delhi. I am passionate about research and innovation. I have authored 10 books and published over 175 research papers in reputed national and international journals. I hold 25 granted patents and 10 more have been published in the Indian Patent Journal. I believe that education must be future-ready and transformative. With this philosophy, I have been actively promoting startup culture, patent filing initiatives and knowledge-sharing practices. Representing Vikram University on international platforms has been a fulfilling experience. I have had the opportunity to participate in global academic events, including ECKM2009 at Italy and the World Congress at the University of California, Berkeley. As part of the Indian Higher Education Delegation, I visited renowned institutions like Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Harvard, and several others across the USA and UK to explore global best practices in education.For me, leadership in education is about creating an environment that nurtures curiosity, innovation, and critical thinking. I strive to bring this vision to every role I take on, whether it’s teaching, mentoring or driving strategic initiatives at the institutional level. Above all, I am committed to empowering students and young professionals to be lifelong learners and innovators. The future belongs to those who adapt, innovate, and lead with purpose- and I believe education plays a pivotal role in shaping such individuals.
