ABOUT ANNA TILBA

Promoting better governance and reporting standards in financial services.Prof. Anna Tilba is a Professor in Strategy and Governance and Co-Director for Impact in Ethical Finance, Accountability and Governance at Durham University Business School. She is internationally known for her research into the governance and accountability of UK financial service providers and institutional investor compliance with the codes of best practice. Prof. Tilba is an experienced and values-driven professional, with a strong track record of thought leadership within the UK financial services sector, undertaking work with UK policy makers and regulators such as the UK Financial Conduct Authority, Competitions and Markets Authority, the UK Law Commission and Financial Reporting Council. She co-led The Pensions Regulator’s D&I Sub-Group on Data and Research, contributing to UK-wide baseline research on trustee diversity. She also has been advising the UNPRI on investor stewardship and UK pension funds on strategy and governance. She is regularly invited to speak at financial services industry events and roundtable discussions dedicated to improving governance and accountability standards. Prof. Tilba has strong appreciation of working in and for public sector bodies. Strong understanding of governance and non-executive board responsibilities; Experience in delivering impactful academic and policy research projects for the UK regulators and other initiatives; Proven expertise in pensions governance, working with different UK regulators and policymakers. Longstanding experience with adhering to ethical standards within public sector bodies; Excellent communication skills and ability to engage diverse stakeholders; Conflict resolution; A collaborative mindset and commitment to knowledge-sharing and inclusive board environment and policy dialogue; Chairing board/committee meetings; Experience of promoting and auditing standards for best practice such as the Best Practice Principles, conducing annual audit of the BPP principles as well as stakeholder reporting. Extensive experience of public and stakeholder engagement. Across all her roles, she acts as a thoughtful and principled voice in shaping responsible governance, regulatory development. In March 2019 she had the honour of giving a closing speech on pension fund fiduciary duties at the Royal Society.Prof. Tilba is a Policy Fellow at the Cambridge University Centre for Science and Policy.
