Excited to be a part of discussions with Prof Johan B. Ubbink who looks on to Ultra Processed Foods (UFPs) and Nutrition, among many other aspects. While UPFs are typically associated with poor nutrition, they can be nutritionally good if carefully formulated. For instance, some UPFs are fortified with essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber to help address nutrient deficiencies. Plant-based UPFs, such as fortified plant milks or meat substitutes, may offer healthy alternatives that are lower in saturated fat and higher in beneficial nutrients like omega fatty acids or protein. Further, defining UPFs based of their delivery of quality nutrition rather than degree of processing could help consumers make best food choices.
