About Priya Pillai
Priya Pillai has worked on environmental and social justice issues for 20 years. She works closely with grassroots movements and non-governmental organisations that focus on climate and energy, gender equality, and forest rights. Previously, she has worked with Greenpeace, the Right to Food Campaign, Action Aid, and Oxfam and remains associated with the National Alliance of People\'s Movement (NAPM) in an independent capacity as a volunteer and solidarity activist. She has been closely associated with the adivasi (indegenous) communities led struggle in Mahan, a forested region in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, in their fight against a coal mine and has worked specifically on the implementation of Forest Rights Act in the region. She is pursuing a Ph.D. on the socio-ecological impacts of large- scale renewable energy from the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. In her current role as the Head of Programme - State Climate Action in Asar, she is working with partners in Tamil Nadu and Kerala on issues relating to climate change and sustainability (specifically on aspects of Resilience building and adaptation in Agriculture, Energy Transition focussing on Decentralised Renewables, Carbon Neutral Districts and Panchayats, Climate Literacy etc ).
