ABOUT BYRON DURIAS
Byron Durias is an experienced Principal with a demonstrated history of successfully working in middle and high school education. His work passions include the recruitment, retention, and mentorship of Black Male educators as well as, access and opportunity for students of color. Byron is a 2017 ASCD Emerging Leader, adjunct professor, and Assessment for Good’s R&D Advisory Council member. He has received numerous awards and recognitions and serves on several education boards. Byron is the co-creator of #BMEsTalk (Black Male Educators Talk), a digital platform, with more than followers, whose mission is to create space for Black Male Educators to connect and share their perspectives on the profession. Byron is a national conference presenter and workshop facilitator. Byron is currently the Principal of Sanford Middle School Magnet. He is skilled in Equity, Cultural Diversity, Staff Development, Educational Leadership, Classroom Management, and At-Risk (At-Potential) Youth. Strong education professional, Byron holds a Bachelor of Arts Education in English Literature, from Florida State University, as well as a Master’s, and Education Specialist in Educational Leadership. Byron lives in Mount Dora, Florida with his three children of whom he is exceptionally proud—Sydney, Cori, and Anderson. A former chef, Byron’s passions are gardening, cooking, and learning about African heritage foods, cuisines, and cultures.
