ABOUT PRERNA SUBRAMANIAN
Not taking on any mentorship work during semester seasons. I am an interdisciplinary researcher and Assistant Professor at O.P. Jindal Global University, where I work at the intersections of urban sociology, political sociology, media studies, cultural geography, and affect. My research focuses on how queer, trans, and caste-marked lives are represented, regulated, and reimagined in Indian and transnational media cultures—through cinematic cities, streaming platforms, fan communities, and feminist satire. However, I love teaching more than research! I teach writing within justice frameworks, and courses that unspool matters of media, geography, gender and sexuality. My writing has appeared in Feminist Media Histories, Gender, Place & Culture, Agenda, Sociology Compass, Media Asia, South Asian Review, and with Duke University Press.My current book project explores trans intimacies and urban governance in Indian streaming media.In addition to academic work, I’m a freelance editor registered with the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), with experience in developmental editing, content editing, and interdisciplinary academic writing support for academics in practically any stage of their career. I also review proposals, research statements for aspirant PhD scholars or scholars/practitioners switching to academia.
