ABOUT PREETI SIMRAN SETHI
Preeti Simran Sethi is a mental health coach, psychedelic integration support and educator, and Nova Media Fellow exploring the unique mental health challenges facing Asian Americans and culturally responsive, identity-based approaches that foster community resilience and well-being. She is also completing a Rosalynn Carter Mental Health Journalism Fellowship on South Asian mental health and healing through altered states. Preeti came to psychedelics through personal experiences for severe depression and anxiety. In 2022, she founded the Asian Psychedelic Collective: the first organization dedicated to creating a space of belonging, education, and advocacy for Asians working with psychedelics. She is committed to expanding dominant narratives around psychedelics, honoring indigenous lineages that have stewarded earth medicines and inspired synthetic analogues, and uplifting explorations into altered states endemic to Asian culture. Preeti teaches on culturally attuned care in the CIIS CPTR and Integrate Queer Psychedelic Facilitator training programs. She was part of the only equity cohort at Fireside Project and, as a member of the JEDI team at the American Psychedelic Practitioners Association, reviewed the first Professional Practice Guidelines for Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy. Named one of DoubleBlind’s most “Influential, Innovative, and Disruptive Women in Psychedelics,” one of the “50 Most Influential Global Indians” by Vogue India, and the “environmental messenger” by Vanity Fair, Preeti has written for outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic, Guernica, and The Guardian. She was designated one of the top eight women saving the planet by Marie Claire; is the author of Bread, Wine, Chocolate: The Slow Loss of Foods We Love (named one of the best food books of 2016 by Smithsonian); the host and creator of The Slow Melt podcast (named Best Food Podcast by Saveur magazine); and coauthor of Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy (winner of the 2008 Axiom Award for Best Business Ethics Book). Preeti is a former contributor to NPR and an inagural inductees into Heritage Radio Network’s Hall of Fame. She holds an MSc. in applied positive psychology & coaching psychology, an MBA in sustainable management, and graduated cum laude with a BA in sociology & women’s studies from Smith College, that, in 2009, awarded her the Smith College Medal.
