ABOUT PREETHI MANGAR
Preethi is from Mauritius but has lived, studied, and worked in various countries including the US, France, India, China & Canada. After obtaining a distinction in IGCSE, she was granted a scholarship by the National Committee of Mauritius to pursue her IB Diploma at the United World College (UWC) in India. She then obtained the Shelby Davis Scholarship to attend Middlebury College in the US, where she completed her degree in French and Francophone studies with highest honors. She was awarded the Stephen A. Freeman Memorial prize for her senior honors thesis on the Francophone post-colonial identity. During her study abroad at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris, her proficiency in bilingualism permitted her to coach students (ages 8 - 15) in English and French. As a French peer tutor at Middlebury College, she provided individual support to students at all levels in French language and literature. She served as a linguistic assistant for the Middlebury College Summer French Language Immersion School and worked at the Alliance Française library in Washington, DC, USA. Her love for swimming allowed her to win several medals in school and impart individualized swimming lessons to young children while in college in the US. She enjoys yoga, recycled papermaking, and performing and training students in her national traditional Mauritian Sega dance. She enjoyed her previously three intertwining roles - head teacher-librarian (where she set up a digital library), English teacher, and CAS Coordinator. She also works for the International Baccalaureate, where she assesses and moderates the IB French B examinations. She is trained to teach the updated 2021 IB language B course for both English and French. She is also a Microsoft educator and launched Skype-a-Thon 2018 and Skype-in-the-classroom at her school. During the Covid-19 travel restrictions, she remained in her home country Mauritius where she taught IB English, became the IB coordinator understudy, and conducted a feasibility study for the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP). At the same time, she continued her roles at her school in China, remotely. She obtained her Permanent Residence in Canada after receiving the French-speaking provincial nomination. She currently teaches IB French A and B at the Pearson United World College in Canada. She also runs the mindful movement and Yoga club and the Library programme.
