About Prawal Agarwal
With a deep passion for materials science and chemical engineering, I have dedicated my career to advancing our understanding and application of these fields. Holding a Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University, where my dissertation focused on “Nanoengineering and synthesis of metal-based materials for enhanced energetic performance,” I have developed expertise in surface modification, thin film deposition using low-temperature plasmas, material synthesis, and advanced material characterization techniques such as XPS, TEM, XRD, SEM, TGA/DSC, STEM/EDS, and FTIR. My work has been recognized with the Excellence in Research and Mentoring award from Penn State in 2022.Currently, as a Research and Development Engineer II at Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc, I spearhead cutting-edge research in advanced materials and energy solutions, having secured substantial federal funding. I am working as the Principal Investigator for a DOE sponsored project on plasma-based air and surface decontamination. My work here spans three pivotal areas: 1) developing thin film deposition techniques for advanced applications, including neutron supermirrors; 2) advancing sustainable energy solutions through decarbonization technologies, such as CO2 conversion; and 3) designing innovative plasma reactors for industrial and environmental applications. Driven by a passion for innovation, I am committed to creating technologies that address global challenges in sustainability and safety. My academic journey includes an M.Tech. from IIT Bombay and a B.Tech. from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, where I laid the foundation for my research career. I have also taught as an Assistant Professor at NMIMS University and conducted research at IIT Bombay. With 12 lead-authored publications during my Ph.D, 10+ conference talks, and a co-invented international patent with 3 other patent applications in process, I am committed to pushing the boundaries of chemical engineering and materials science. I am an active member of the scientific community, having presented at prestigious conferences, including as an invited speaker at the Gordon Research Conference for energetic materials in 2024.Beyond my professional endeavors, I am passionate about mentoring and community building, having mentored numerous students and organized various cultural and technical events.I look forward to continuing my contributions to materials science and collaborating on projects that drive innovation and solve pressing challenges.
