Experience

  1. System Medication Safety Officer

    Kettering Health

Sep 2020 — Present · Dayton, OH, US

I serve as the first Medication Safety Officer for KH. My personal passion for medication safety and prioritizing safe patient care has been a foundation for me to serve as the System Medication Safety Officer. I am a clinical practitioner with demonstrated leadership skills serving the Kettering Health system as an expert in safe medication use. My focus is on implementing change in practices and procedures where the end goal is medication safety. I continually demonstrate a strong understanding of the internal systems and processes and have the clinical expertise to understand the operations of the healthcare system to facilitate accurate interpretation of clinical events. The knowledge of performance improvement methodologies and tools, including the root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, cause and effect diagramming, process flow mapping, and other such tools to monitor and measure performance-improvement initiatives and progress is an asset in this role. My strong personal belief is in the concept of Just Culture and Psychological Safety creates a high reliable organization which embeds transparency, demonstrates priority of a safe culture, encourages safety first amongst all healthcare providers and team members, and fosters a safe learning environment which motivates our team members to voluntarily report medication events. In this role I have implemented many successes for Kettering Health such as increase in reporting, standardized availability of medications on emergent override per care areas, standardized the Alaris infusion guardrails library with implementation of system wide interoperability in the adult, pediatric, and NICU environments. It is imperative for my role and function to establish and maintain a culture focused on safety for patients and healthcare team members.
