My work at SEARCH Gadchiroli, an organization founded by Dr. Abhay Bang, follows a hybrid model, where some days I focus on planning, research, and counseling related to mental health while working from the office, and on other days I travel to remote tribal areas to directly engage with the local communities. Working in tribal regions is particularly challenging because the people often have limited awareness about mental health due to their unique culture, lifestyle, and social circumstances. Explaining these concepts and gaining their trust requires patience, sensitivity, and understanding. Despite these challenges, being able to bring small but meaningful changes in their lives makes my work deeply fulfilling and motivating.Through this experience, I have learned many valuable skills effective communication tailored to diverse cultural contexts, empathy, and how to provide mental health support that respects local traditions. I’ve realized that simply sharing technical information is not enough; it is equally important to understand their emotions, fears, and misconceptions to build a genuine connection. Working with SEARCH, a pioneering institution led by Dr. Abhay Bang, has strengthened my ability to respond to complex social challenges and inspired me to be more dedicated and compassionate in the field of social and mental health work.
