About Prashant Singh

A specialisation in Regulation and Institutions at the School of Public Policy and Governance, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad, coupled with work experience at a data mining firm and the Ministry of Finance, has made me proficient in responding to current policy challenges at the intersection of Law, Regulation, and the State. My internship experiences, systematic research as well as the ability to analyse big datasets directs me towards context specific and evidence based policymaking. I have interned with the Andhra Pradesh Planning Department, whereat I was involved with policy review and transition analysis of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Board, and at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, with the State Capacity Initiative. My M.A. dissertation explored the nature of the contract being offered in the Indian platform economy and was awarded the highest combined score for the course. I was involved with the newsletter team at SPPG as an editor, preparing legislative briefs for the legislations introduced in either of the houses of the Indian Parliament. Also, I had the opportunity to work on the data analytics part of a thesis protocol in pursuance of a degree of Diplomate of National Board titled “Analysis of cost of Paediatric Intensive Care under PM-JAY scheme at a tertiary care paediatric ICU in a Tier-II city”. I have explored the reasons for the low private sector investment in R&D as a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Competitiveness, Gurugram. Currently I am freelancing as a Public Policy Consultant with a client list which includes Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), New Delhi, and the SRF Foundation, Gurugram, and Room to Read (RtR), New Delhi. I plan to pursue a PhD in the field of Local Finance, particularly in the domain of operationalising tax instruments at the disposal of the local governance bodies and what they can learn from their international counterparts.
