ABOUT PRASANNA SHIROL
I co-founded the Organization for Rare Diseases India (ORDI), a non-profit national umbrella organization representing the collective voice and needs of all rare disease patients and stakeholders. ORDI aims to address the unmet needs and catalyze an ecosystem of opportunities for all stakeholders that ultimately benefit millions of patients with rare diseases in India. Based on our own extensive work and interactions with the Indian rare disease community, we have identified several urgent action items for the benefit of Indian Rare Disease Patients- Rare diseases awareness, education and advocacy- Influence patient-centric government policy to include concerns specific to rare diseases- Encourage and support funding for research and development of novel diagnostics and treatment options for rare diseases in India- Advocate the implementation of new born screening across India.
