ABOUT PRARTHANA PAI
A compassionate Psychotherapist and a Mental Health Researcher, working towards helping individuals navigate profound life transitions and crises. I am passionate about improving quality of life by adopting an integrated, narrative-based psychological care framework. My clinical practice is deeply rooted in Narrative Therapy, which I apply effectively to help clients externalize and re-author the stories surrounding grief, trauma, and complex emotional adjustment. Through this process, I guide individuals to uncover hidden strengths, dismantle problem-saturated narratives, and construct empowering, preferred life stories. Leveraging my research acumen, I ensure my approach is both compassionate and grounded in evidence, constantly seeking innovative ways to translate narrative principles into effective, person-centered interventions. In the capacity of a Research Associate, I contributed to the development and formulation of the Trans-Affirmative Mental Health Care Guidelines. My role involved critical research and analysis to ensure the guidelines are evidence-based, inclusive, and reflect best practices for providing affirming mental health support to transgender individuals. This landmark document is based on mixed-method research across three major cities and is designed to shift mental health practice from a pathologizing model to a holistically affirming approach. The guidelines advocate for validating the experiences of transgender and gender-diverse individuals, aiming to reduce disparities in care while addressing the needs of the community, their families, and medical professionals. I have also actively contributed to the State Curriculum Frameworks (SCFs) for Meghalaya and the National Curriculum Frameworks (NCFs). I was part of the Focus Groups that developed the Position Papers for the 25 identified areas. My work facilitated the formulation process and successful submission of these papers on the online NCF Portal, assisting the state in progressing towards the completion of the SCFs. This was formally recognized by the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), Government of Meghalaya.
