About Pragya Arora
Ph.D Student |Experimental Physicist | Active Granular Matter In the last two decades, there has been growing interest in understanding how large collections of living organisms spontaneously form large-scale collective patterns, such as bird flocks, bacterial colonies and fish schools. These systems, broadly classified as \"active matter\", are at the forefront of statistical physics and condensed matter research. These systems are out of equilibrium as there is continuous input of energy at each particle level, and detailed balance is violated. My goal was to realize laboratory model systems – non-living particles rendered active by pumping energy into the system – to enable experimental studies in a more controlled setting. I designed and developed an experimental-driven granular media system consisting of vertically vibrated 3D printed active designer matter.
