About Pradeep Banerjee

Unilever is the first company I joined after graduating as a Chemical Engineer from IIT Delhi. In these almost four decades of association with Unilever, I have worked in India, London, Nepal and Singapore. I have worked in manufacturing, procurement, logistics, marketing and R&D. In 2010, I joined as an Executive Director on the Board of Unilever in India (HUL) and as the Vice President for Supply Chain for Unilever in South Asia. I superannuated on 31st Dec 2019. this stint taught me the the values of strategic longer-term thinking, the critical role of innovation, the benefits of operational rigor, financial discipline and above all, managing Talent for future. These insights helped me to transform the Supply Chain so that operations and technology become core to superior sustained financial performance. The SC instead of being just famous for cost savings, graduated to becoming the competitive advantage for the business. This digital transformation has given Unilever an edge in rollout of Innovation, Quality, Customer Service, leading edge Costs and Cash performance and above all very high levels of agility. During this period, I was also been the Chairman of the JV of HUL in Nepal. Currently, I am a Senior advisor to BCG, am on the Boards of Gabriel India, Chambal fertilizers, Stellar Value chain solutions, and Whirlpool India as an Independent Director. I also mentor 3 tech startups in the areas of AI and Sustainability. I have been the head of the Plastics in the National Committee on Environment of CII and the co chair of the plastics committee of FICCI. I have been intimately engaged with Industry leaders, NGOs, UNDP, Xynteo and the relevant Ministries to accelerate creation of such a framework. Prior to coming onto the Board of HUL, I have worked extensively in the area of Global Procurement in Singapore, Global Supply Chain in London, been the Managing Director of our JV in Nepal, led the Oral Care Business in India, Development of New Products for Personal Care. of operations within that. I have also become a passionate advocate of Sustainability with a clear belief that there exists a very strong business case for Sustainability in our operations.
