ABOUT REBECCA POWELL

I am a chartered transport planner and qualified project manager with widespread experience in the UK and internationally. My main focus is leading our team in Sheffield and winning work in South Yorkshire. My technical expertise includes- transport decarbonisation, sustainability and regeneration- scheme investment, business case and funding bids- acting as regional champion for embedding the UN SDGs in our work- strategic, multi-modal transport planning - client relationships and work winning- zero emission bus studies, active travel (LCWIPs), movement studies, spatial planning​ - stakeholder engagement Transport is an interest of mine as well as a career. I have travelled extensively worldwide and was drawn into the transport industry when I discovered the key role that transport played in individual\'s lives. I believe that transport impacts quality of life, equality, our natural environment and our planet, and I am motivated by doing work that can make a positive difference in these things.Educated in geography, my career in transport commenced at Steer Davies Gleave as a graduate in London. After building a foundation in transport planning and economics best practice, I then moved to the company’s Toronto office for two years. In Canada I played a pivotal role in building up Steer Davies Gleave’s presence as one of only three people in the office. Here I also got the opportunity to take on larger project management roles, such as the Hurontario-Main LRT.In 2015 I moved to the London Borough of Camden as a project manager for public realm projects, building valuable client-side experience. Alongside this I pursued a personal project to obtain planning permission for residential development in Herefordshire.I now work in Sheffield as a Senior Planner at Arup, where I lead a wide range of planning projects, including transport and city-based strategy, future mobility insight for cities and city regions, and the feasibility and business case for low-emission vehicles. I also concentrate on business development in the North.
