About Portia Jackson Preston

I am an Associate Professor of Public Health at Cal State Fullerton, where my research agenda focuses on multilevel approaches to wellness, and examines stress as a driver of health disparities. My Tedx talk,\"The Missing Ingredient in Self-Care\", lays out my vision for self-care and the role each of us can play in bringing it to fruition. I have worked with executive leadership, management, frontline staff, teachers, community health workers, health care professionals, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and engineers to develop personally customized, holistic approaches to self-care. I am hired by companies and organizations who want to invest in their employees wellbeing. They value their personal and professional livelihood and don\'t want them to burn out. I share stories from my own journey with chronic illness and mental health challenges to help individuals visualize pathways to achieve integration in their own lives. I talk about the things that are difficult to discuss in the work environment, out of fear that we will compromise our future or be judged. Through keynotes, executive coaching, and retreats, I work with my clients to develop a sustainable wellness practice that meets them where they are and helps them navigate life\'s challenges.
