ABOUT PORTIA GARNONS-WILLIAMS

Portia is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, Trinity College, studying International Relations and Political Science.She is the President of the International Issues Discussion (IID) Series, a non-partisan, student-led forum at Toronto Metropolitan University. She also serves as a member of the Indigenous Leadership Commission of the Voices of Future Generations Children’s Initiative Project, in partnership with the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law. She is also served as a Senior Mentor for the Trinity One program, a selection of first-year undergraduate courses meant to prepare students for upper-year courses.This summer, she served her second term as a Junior Policy Analyst in the Privy Council Office with the Priorities, Planning and Results Secretariat. Before this role, she worked as a Junior Program Officer for the Canada Border Services Agency. She has presented academic papers at several undergraduate research conferences hosted by the University of Toronto, including the Trinity College Undergraduate Research Conference (TCURC) and the IID’s own annual Student Conferences.She is a passionate advocate for Indigenous rights. Through her academic research and volunteerism, she brings to light concerns of Indigenous injustice and inequity.
