ABOUT POORNIMA VIJAYAN
I am a laboratory medicine physician with over 10 years of experience across all disciplines of Clinical and Anatomical Pathology including molecular pathology (particularly immunohistochemical (IHC) panel interpretation, flowcytometry and in-situ hybridization techniques). My interests include oncopathology, renal pathology and molecular diagnostics. Additionally, I trained in Medical Genomics at the University of Toronto and gained clinical genomic lab experience in the field of cancer genomics (interpretation and reporting of cancer associated somatic and germline variants, including fusion genes) at the Genome Diagnostics Laboratory, University Health Network,Toronto. I have been involved in researching novel genes associated with FSGS in the Division of Nephrology at Toronto General Hospital. I am a past member of ClinGen\'s Platelet Disorder Variant Curation Expert Panel. In my previous role as a scientist in the target discovery team at Deep Genomics, I helped identify potential druggable genetic targets in rare and complex disease, that may be amenable to development of RNA based therapeutic modalities (ex. oligonucleotide therapies). In my current role as Consultant Molecular Genetic Pathologist, I oversee the interpretation, approval and sign out of various clinical genomic test reports relevant to solid organ cancers. I offer remote consulting for labs, startups, and research teams — from variant curation to report review. If you are looking for genomics related support, let\'s connect.
