About Pooja Yerramilli

I am a board-certified internal medicine physician who is driven to improve health equity by bridging clinical care, public health, health policy, and health financing. Over the past 15 years, I have worked across academia, non-governmental organizations, and multilateral institutions to strengthen health systems and health security to this end. My global work is informed by my local engagements and vice versa. Globally, through my work at the World Bank, World Health Organization, and NGOs, I have developed and coordinated new global strategies and agendas (eg on health workforce, health security), led high-level policy dialogue with governments and partners (eg at Ministerial forums), delivered technical assistance (ranging from health financing to surveillance and laboratory systems to supply chains), and advised and supported implementation of large-scale public investments and reforms to improve affordable access to high-quality health care, public health systems, and health emergency preparedness. Locally, I have focused on improving public health and healthcare systems through my clinical engagements and advocacy. As a clinician on the frontlines of Covid-19, I have supported efforts to improve workflows, infection prevention and control, and community outreach in Boston. I have particularly focused on delivering and improving care for marginalized patients through, for example, my clinical and quality improvement work at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, and United Medical Center (DC\'s only public hospital). These insights across contexts have informed my external engagements and writing on global and domestic health, which has appeared in JAMA, the Lancet Global Health, BMJ Global Health, Boston Globe, STAT News, HuffPost, and other widely circulated publications.
