About Ponthep Potipan

Ponthep has been with Kiewit for over 13 years. He is currently with Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers (KIE) in Denver as a Geotechnical Engineer working on various geotechnical related assignments. His current role and responsibilities include providing geotechnical design support to various projects within the company, performing design peer review, evaluating geotechnical risk on pursuit projects, developing technical memorandums, and conducting engineering analyses (i.e, working surface, slope stability and driveability). While on the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening Project as a lead Contract Administration Engineer, Ponthep was responsible for documenting and evaluating engineering decisions, reporting incidents/changes to the client, identifying differing site conditions, and writing correspondence to the client (i.e, claims, change order requests, provisional sum requests, impact letters, and other correspondence related to the progress of the project). He also took a supervising role in managing other engineers within his group and delegating tasks among his group. Ponthep is well-versed with the project specifications and contract processes and procedures as a result of his experience working in the Contract Administration group on this mega-project.Prior to Kiewit, Ponthep was previously employed with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) as an Engineering Intern working on various pipeline projects and pipeline related tasks. Ponthep’s previous experience with MWD involved providing engineering support to project managers, such as preparing contract documents, as-built drawings, data, project schedules, plans and budgets.

1. Geotechnical Design Engineer

   As a Geotechnical Design Engineer, Ponthep has been involved in several projects within Kiewit providing various geotechnical supports. His current role and responsibilities include providing geotechnical design support to various projects within the company, performing design peer review, evaluating geotechnical risk on pursuit projects, developing technical memorandums, and conducting engineering analyses (i.e, working surface, slope stability and driveability). The following are some of the project that Ponthep has been focused on- Tesoro – Avon Wharf Upgrade Project, Martinez, CA: Performed site characterization and conducted WEAP driveability analyses of several large diameter pipe piles. In addition, Ponthep also developed several technical memorandums to assist and provide construction support for the project- Old Town Transit Hub, Arvada, CO: Performed peer review of Soil Nail and Secant Pile Tie Back retaining wall drawings and calculations in order to assist the project with constructability and design package deliverability- Parks Highway Grade Separations, Talkeetna, AK: Performed geotechnical risk review of the pre-bid documents and conducted geotechnical design alternative analysis in order to assist Northwest District with their pursue of this project- Smoky Hill 2MG Water Tank, Aurora, CO: Conducted field observation and site characterization for subsurface exploration and investigation. In addition, Ponthep also provided geotechnical risk review and recommendation to assist Western Summit Constructor with their estimate for the pursue of this project- Arkendale – Powell’s Creek Third Track Project, Stafford, VA: Performed subsurface investigation, peer review of abutment foundation design, and conducted driveability analysis of several sheet piles in order to assist the project with the constructability of the sheet pile retaining walls.
