About Aaron Pollack
Software Engineer with primary experience in backend sever development and large-scale data processing infrastructure. Currently working on the Travel Ads team at Google building reporting and campaign management features. In Tom Clancy’s The Hunt for Red October, published in 1984, a key plot point revolved around getting compute time on a Cray 2 supercomputer. At the time, the Cray 2 was the most powerful computer in existence, with 1.9 gigaflops of performance. You’re reading this on a device which has hundreds, maybe thousands, of times more computing power. In 1984, the Cray 2 was used as a MacGuffin. What can we do with computers orders of magnitude more powerful? I want to find out.
