As a Simulation Intern, I’ve been working on improving warehouse operations using FlexSim, a simulation software that helps model real-world systems. The goal of my project is to make warehouse workflows more efficient by identifying delays and testing solutions in a virtual environment.What I’ve been doing: Built a basic warehouse layout and added key elements like conveyors, processors, operators, and storage areas. Made the simulation more realistic by including machine breakdowns and repair times using MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair). Explored tools like the Dashboard and Global Table to track how items move, how resources are used, and where delays occur. Looked into everyday operations like shift timings and breaks to understand how they impact performance. Suggested and tested possible solutions based on the data, aiming to reduce downtime and improve overall efficiency.What I’ve learned: How to use simulation to solve real-world problems in warehouse management. The importance of analyzing data to find bottlenecks and improve processes. Hands-on experience with tools like MTBF/MTTR, Dashboards, and data tables in FlexSim.This experience has given me a deeper understanding of how technology can be used to improve systems and has strengthened both my problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
