About Philip Smallwood
I love developing short and long term strategic initiatives by creating multiple scenarios to determine the best course of action. I have found that the key to accomplishing these tasks is having the ability to collect and delve into actionable intelligence, grasp new subjects quickly and be open to multiple different perspectives. I have enjoyed many positions in different industries (Renewable energy, LED lighting, cannabis and controlled environment agriculture (CEA)) ranging from consulting, market research, marketing and strategy. Each has provided me with insights into how I operate: 1) I am adaptable and a quick learner about new topics/industries 2) Enjoy working on a team that brings multiple different perspectives (Potential solutions) to a problem 3) Have the ability to look at an issue from multiple points of view 4) Can collect, digest and make key inferences from multiple sets of intelligence and present information in a condensed narrative The environment and sustainability are subjects that I am truly passionate about. I am also a true believer that the more a business is in tune with and conscientious about its potential impacts (good and bad), the more successful it will be in the long run. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about new topics, so reach out if you are interested in talking!
Experience
Global Market Intelligence and Strategy
Oct 2019 — Present · Austin, TX, US
I have a key role in helping focus the company\'s growth efforts at all levels of the company: Marketing, Business Development and/or Product Development in order to ensure the continued success of the company. By providing key insights and recommended strategies based on multiple scenarios, we are better positioned to direct our efforts to maximize our returns. The horticultural lighting and more specifically, the cannabis market are currently undergoing stressful changes that are likely to continue in the short term, but with a structured, targeted (Sometimes outside -the-box) approach, I am positive we will come out stronger and in a better position than before. The future is looking bright!
