ABOUT PILAR MANRIQUEZ
I am grounded in my experiences of the socio-economic and geo-political barriers that exist in rural communities. I actively serve as a bridge for community members through political, economic, and energy advocacy. I have worked to highlight the inaccessibility to clean water, potent air quality, toxin exposure, and persistent economic deficiencies. As Student Director for UC Berkeley’s Alternative Breaks Program, my efforts strengthened partnerships with California\'s Central Valley’s community-based organizations, leaders, and members. After fundraising these funds were used for cultivating community gardens in rural unincorporated communities. As an Executive Fellow with California Energy Commission, Commissioner Monahan\'s office, I prioritized Equity and Inclusion praxis. I supported the revitalization of the Advisory Committee for Clean Transportation Program, which invests $100 Million per year to clean energy projects in disproportionally impacted communities. And collaborated with Fuels and Transportation Division to host and moderate Integrated Energy Policy Report workshops, engaged Disadvantaged Communities Advisory Group, and participated in Energy Commission\'s equity efforts. My focus has been to support the clean energy transition in California. As California continues to lead global efforts to combat climate change, I am dedicated to advancing an equitable, decarbonized, and resilient energy ecosystem centered around sustainability and investment of critical infrastructure in low-income and disadvantaged communities. I am advancing my degree to continue my role in advocating for low-income communities, specifically to reduce any environmental impacts and increase benefits in the advancement of clean energy investments of battery storage, solar panels, data centers, and electric vehicles. My commitment to advocacy has been recognized by scholarships and programs including the Chicana Latina Foundation, Public Policy International Affairs Program, Hearthstone Housing Foundation, California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation, The Soroptomist Local and Regional Chapter, the Peter E. Haas Public Service Leader Scholars, SAGE Scholars Program, and Shinnyo-en Foundation. I plan to pursue a Masters in Public Administration and J.D. to better serve as a community advocate and resource.
