The University of Miami Human Rights Clinic in the School of Law’s Human Rights Program, advances human rights through strategic advocacy, impact litigation, and community centered partnerships at both a local and global level. In my role as an interpreter for the HRC, I facilitate communication between Spanish/Portuguese speaking clients and the clinical team, ensuring accuracy and clarity, throughout each interaction. This work requires not only linguistic precision and professionalism, but also a strong commitment to client advocacy. It has also provided me with first hand exposure to medical histories, diagnostic processes, and the broader health related challenges faced by vulnerable populations experiences that continue to shape and deepen my aspiration to pursue a career in medicine.

ABOUT PIETRA AMOR DE OLIVEIRA

Hi, my name is Pietra Amor, I am a dedicated and passionate pre-medical student raised in Miami, Florida, and attending the University of Miami, majoring in Microbiology and Immunology & Public Health on a pre-medical track with a minor in Health Management and Policy & Spanish for Science and healthcare professions, as a former Division 1 student athlete on the University of Miami women\'s rowing team. I am immensely passionate about healthcare and exploring the area of Community Health and Surgery. I am currently a Member of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) pre-health honor society, and Uconnect (undergraduate research club), where I presented my individual research at the Research Symposium and won 2nd place, presenting that same research at the Eastern-Atlantic Student Research Forum at Miami Miller School of Medicine and have had my research acknowledged by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). As a former Division 1 student-athlete, recognized for my leadership, teamwork, and advocacy, I strive to make a positive impact both in the healthcare field and within the athletic community. My ultimate goal is to continue my journey into Medical School, followed by Residency and Fellowship, and a fulfilling career in the field of medicine. I am eager to seek out any opportunities to gain valuable experience through shadowing or engaging in medical research, as practical exposure is key to honing my skills and understanding in healthcare. With a strong work ethic and a drive for excellence, I approach every endeavor with enthusiasm, seeking growth and embracing challenges as opportunities for personal and professional development. I aspire to make a positive difference in people\'s lives, and I firmly believe that compassion, empathy, and knowledge are instrumental in transforming healthcare. I am excited to connect with like-minded individuals, mentors, and professionals in the medical field who share similar interests or can provide valuable insights. I\'m looking forward to talking with you!
