About Phyllis Currie

Phyllis Currie is the former general manager of Pasadena Water and Power (PWP), which provides electricity to Pasadena, California and surrounding unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. During her 14 year tenure, PWP added new electric generation units to its power plant, added infrastructure funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to clean up ground water contamination; developed water and energy resource plans which include aggressive goals for renewable energy and water conservation and embarked on multi-year infrastructure improvement programs to upgrade the city’s water and electrical distribution systems. During her 30-year career with the city of Los Angeles, Ms. Currie held the positions of Chief Financial Officer for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; Assistant City Administrative Officer overseeing development of the city’s annual operating and capital budgets and director of the Los Angeles rent control program. She is past chair of the American Public Power Association, and past president of the California Municipal Utilities Association and the Southern California Public Power Association. She also served on the board of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, the California Debt Advisory Commission and the Electricity Advisory Committee of DOE. Her current board work includes the MidContinent Independent System Operator (MISO), board chair in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and Global Clean Energy Holdings, Inc. She is also an executive consultant providing strategic advice to electric and water agencies.
