I am one of the most fortunate people in the world! This is not because I have a fortune in the bank from high-paying jobs. It’s because, for whatever reason, the universe gifted me with a heart and mind filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and possibility which have been honored by various employers and networks throughout my life. This, and a work ethic instilled in me as a child, have allowed me to jump into unknown worlds, use and add tools in my toolbox, make mistakes and learn many lessons, and make positive contributions wherever I found myself. Of course, my professional journey wasn’t always a smooth ride. As my banner image shows, it’s been a curvy and bumpy road with a lot of adventures along the way. Now, I’ve just taken a huge turn as I recently graduated from law school, passed the California Bar Exam, and found my place in a world I love – Music: Music Publishing, Music Rights, Music Law.My “Experience” section shares more of my story, not just my roles and responsibilities. I’ve taken advantage of this platform to document my journey and I’m still working on it. The earlier story is mostly there. It may not make recruiters happy, but since I decided to include over 35 years of my working lifetime, I might as well share all the beginnings, middles & ends of each phase. The later story still reads like a resume for now.I experienced 4 layoffs, and chose to leave jobs twice with nothing else lined up because it came to be the right thing to do. I fulfilled dreams like being a corporate trainer, traveling for my job, pitching songs for projects and artists, and connecting with amazing people all over the world. I’ve come to appreciate that I need to stay true to myself, open to change, and willing to take interest in more than I might have originally planned.I say that I was “raised by” Progressive Insurance, because they really did give me my professional “upbringing.” Who’d have thought I’d work for an auto insurance company, let alone owe so much of my life to them? They spoiled me, however, and ruined me for all future employers. They weren’t perfect, but their investment in training, customer service, innovation, and internal mobility was something I came to expect from and look for in every company.Side hustle passions and causes, a loving husband, and a community of extraordinarily talented and giving friends and colleagues keep me going and believing that I can survive, remain employable, and continue to thrive for many years to come.
