About Phillip Huynh

Coming from Garden Grove, California, Phillip Huynh has always felt a personal commitment to uplifting his community. As a first generation college student, Phillip earned his BA in Political Science and History of Public Policy & Law at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Serving as a student government senator during the pandemic, he provided relief for struggling students by distributing aid on the COVID-19 task force. Phillip also spearheaded the allocation of to the Asian Resource Center for community healing events and authored a resolution condemning the rise in Anti-Asian Hate crimes. The xenophobia and racism faced by AANHPI communities motivated Phillip to write his senior thesis on the role of U.S. policies in facilitating the formation of an Asian American panethnic identity. Throughout the past 2 years, Phillip worked tirelessly to serve the AAPI community in his role as program coordinator at Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP), a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles dedicated to advancing the professional and personal development of APIs in the workplace. He spearheaded the revamp, planning, and recruitment efforts of LEAP’s Emerge program for college students looking to gain experience in the nonprofit space. Phillip also enjoyed supporting executive directors in nonprofits and managers in corporations looking to progress in their careers. Prior to his role at LEAP, he also canvassed for Katie Porter’s successful reelection campaign in 2022; interned at both the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Agriculture; and worked at Purplely, a nonprofit and non-partisan political organization. Phillip remains active in as an alumni in his communities.
